VOTE! or not

Their mocking tweets flood my timeline. For every inspirational post from a field organizer, candidate, and campaign volunteer making change, I scroll a bit further to see cynical teenagers raving about how convincing voters to vote for a certain candidate is the ultimate downfall of society.

---

“Vote, Vote, Vote. Why would we vote? Nothing will change.”

Of course, choosing the people who run our country is useless. What would change from making sure that public health care options are actually a viable option? You’re right, it’s probably better to just keep removing millions of people off of their only life line, paying thousands of dollars for simple procedures. What would change from ensuring that community college will become free for millions of working class families across the country? You’re right, it’s probably better to just keep shoving teenagers into thousands of dollars in debt for a four-degree which loses its value with every passing day. What would change from reuniting families who have been separated for months at the border? You’re right, it’s probably better if we just keep posting about how messed up our country is.

Now, don’t forget, voter suppression is one of the largest violations of democracy in our current day and age. The American system should be ashamed of taking away a basic human right from millions of people. But as Get Out the Vote weekend approaches, calling confused voters who have no education on how to vote sounds like an immense burden, so instead bashing Democrats who have settled for the lesser of two evils is a better plan. Continuing to live-tweet while the two mediocre candidates running for President argue over who is less of a racist, but offering those two hours to help end the racial injustices across the nation is too far out of their comfort zone.

Happy day before Election Day! I hope you did your part :)
