Why are there ten seasons of Friends?
Somehow over the past years, the unpopular opinion that the show "Friends" is terrible has become a popular opinion. Let me beg to differ. The day that 'Friends" taken off Netflix was deeply saddening for me. The eccentric characters, the witty dialogue, New York City setting, and most of all, sarcastic and oftentimes unfunny humor (always accompanied by an extremely annoying and repetitive laugh track). I may know the words to almost every episode by heart, and completely agree that the show is quite unenjoyable to most people, but somehow on the worst days, I would still end up in bed watching an episode for the seventh time. In case you want to immerse yourself in the full experience of this blog post, here is a clip from my favorite episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UV7fZd7gjJ8. Now I know this may not be the most intelligent way of continuing our intensely academic and contemplative discussions of humor from English class, but I am going to continue on to digress about my love for friends for just a bit longer.
Essentially, the show provides me comfort. Imagine the humor from that one clip of Matthew Perry, but for ten seasons straight, and you will surely understand why the majority of the teenage population enjoys raving about their hatred for the show. But put yourself in my position, a chaotic teenager who finds solace in listening to the music she listened to in middle school, sleeping in her mother's bed on occasion (now this one may be a bit weird considering I am a high school senior), and as you can tell, watching repetitive, predictably boring shows.
